Vintage Radiaray Adjustable Lamp Hinders Ltd Converted

A wonderfully unusual vintage Radiaray adjustable electro-medical lamp, manufactured in England by Hinders Ltd, London, and now sympathetically converted for use as a striking table or desk lamp. Originally designed as a therapeutic infra-red heat lamp, the Radiaray has a distinctive industrial form with a large spun-metal reflector, curved support arm and substantial circular base. The shade can be adjusted using the original side mechanism, allowing the light to be directed as required. Finished in its original warm cream colour, it retains plenty of character from its former working life, including light scratches, marks and small areas of paint loss consistent with age and use. It is of particular interest, the lamp still retains its original Radiaray paper guarantee/instruction label, describing the unit as an adjustable electro-medical lamp and referring to its original infra-red radiation. The manufacturer’s Radiaray / Hinders Ltd, London label also remains on the base. The lamp has now been converted for conventional lighting and fitted with a decorative twisted fabric cable and UK plug, making it a highly usable piece while retaining its original appearance and industrial character. A great piece of British vintage design that would work particularly well as a desk lamp, reading light or statement lamp in an industrial, mid-century or eclectic interior.
