Pair Vintage Serbian Folk Art Carved Wooden Figures Traditional Costume

A characterful pair of vintage hand-carved wooden folk figures depicting a Serbian man and woman in traditional costume. The male figure is shown wearing a cap, waistcoat and breeches, while the female carries a kettle and another domestic vessel. Both have been individually carved with particularly nice detail to the faces, clothing and accessories. The male figure bears an incised Cyrillic inscription including “СРБИЈА” (Serbia), supporting their Serbian origin. Both retain a lovely aged surface and warm patina, with the slightly naïve character associated with traditional folk carving. They make an unusual pair of Eastern European folk-art objects and display particularly well together. Dimensions: Male approx. 25cm high; female approx. 21cm high.
