George III Mahogany Cellarette / Wine Cooler on Stand, c.1780 A handsome late 18th century George III mahogany cellarette, dating to around 1780 and retaining a lovely rich colour and patina. The rectangular hinged top opens to reveal the original-style fitted interior divided for bottles, making this a particularly usable piece as well as an attractive example of Georgian furniture. The cellarette is fitted with wonderful lion-mask ring handles to the sides and stands on its elegant original-style mahogany base, with a gadrooned edge and fluted square tapering legs. At approximately 250 years old, it has acquired the sort of colour and surface that only comes with genuine age. Originally designed for storing and serving wine, today it would work beautifully as a wine cooler, drinks cabinet, occasional table or decorative piece beside a dining table.
