Early 20th Century English Folk Art Rocking Parrot c.1920

A wonderfully characterful early 20th century English folk art rocking parrot, dating to circa 1920. Hand-cut from wood and retaining its wonderfully aged painted decoration in deep green, red and ochre tones, with attractive craquelure and wear developed over many years. The parrot is mounted upon its original-style wooden stand and is cleverly weighted and balanced on a pivot, allowing the bird to gently rock backwards and forwards when set in motion. A charming and increasingly sought-after piece of English folk art, with a particularly decorative sculptural quality. The untouched, time-worn surface gives the parrot enormous character and makes it an unusual addition to a collection or interior. Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear, losses and craquelure to the painted surface, as shown. There appears to be an old repair/reinforcement around the pivot point.
