Antique Brown & Flather Sheffield Brass-Bound Rosewood Spirit Level – c.1890–1910
An original Brown & Flather, Sheffield brass-bound rosewood spirit level dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period, circa 1890–1910.
Measuring approximately 25 cm (9¾ inches) in length, this finely crafted level features a quality rosewood body with full-length brass bindings, brass end caps, and the original glass spirit vial. The brass top plate is clearly stamped “Brown & Flather, Sheffield,” confirming its manufacture or retail by the respected Sheffield toolmakers.
The level displays an attractive, untouched patina with honest signs of professional use accumulated over more than a century. It remains a fine example of traditional Sheffield craftsmanship, produced during the city’s golden age of hand tool manufacturing.
