A striking Art Deco pedestal desk dating from around the 1930s, combining richly figured timbers with a particularly impressive book-matched top. The large rectangular top is veneered in highly figured walnut, arranged to create a dramatic symmetrical pattern across the surface. This contrasts beautifully with the lighter figured bird’s eye maple used across the pedestal sides, apron and kneehole, while the six drawer fronts are finished in a deeper-toned timber. Each pedestal is fitted with three drawers, all with sculpted integral finger pulls, giving the desk a wonderfully clean, streamlined appearance typical of the Art Deco period. The desk stands on simple block feet with contrasting veneered plinths. A particularly attractive piece from every angle, with the combination of walnut and pale figured timber giving it real presence without being overly ornate. The desk is in good antique/vintage condition with age-related marks, wear and variations to the finish as expected. Please see photographs for condition.
