Antique Victorian Pine Collector’s Chest of 4 Drawers / Counter Top Cabinet

A wonderfully characterful late 19th century collector’s chest, made in stained pine and fitted with four graduated drawers, each with simple turned wooden pull knobs. Originally made as a practical piece of storage, this compact chest has a lovely utilitarian feel and a surface that has developed naturally through age and use. The warm colour, worn edges and small marks all add to its appeal rather than making it feel over-restored. Its size makes it especially useful today. It would work very well on a counter, desk, side table or shelving, either as a decorative piece in its own right or for storing small collections, jewellery, stationery, watches, curios or other keepsakes. The chest has clearly seen plenty of use over the years and retains a good amount of honest age. There are scratches, knocks and general surface wear throughout, along with some damage to the front edge of the top section. One of the drawer knobs also has damage. These areas are shown in the photographs and are reflected in the overall character of the piece. Despite this wear, the chest remains a very attractive and practical little antique, with a pleasing proportion and a great deal of charm. A lovely small antique storage piece with genuine age, useful proportions and plenty of character.
