Antique Scottish Vernacular Joined Armchair Glasgow Pattern

Scottish Vernacular Glasgow Pattern Joined Armchair, c.1880 A handsome late Victorian Scottish vernacular joined armchair, traditionally associated with the Glasgow pattern and dating to around c.1880–1900. Constructed in solid hardwood, the chair has a robust, practical form typical of Scottish country furniture, with a boarded seat, shaped swept arms, turned supports and a simple ladder-back arrangement. The stretchered base and substantial joined construction give the chair a strong architectural quality, while the warm colour and naturally aged surface provide plenty of character. The timber has developed an attractive patina through age and use, with the expected knocks, marks and wear associated with an original late 19th-century chair. A very usable and decorative piece, suitable as a fireside chair, hall chair, desk chair or occasional armchair in a traditional, country-house or more eclectic interior.
