A handsome 19th century mahogany open bookcase of useful compact proportions, fitted with two adjustable shelves. The shelf fronts have been fitted with replacement hand-crafted leather fringes, finished with attractive gilt tooling, which give the piece a particularly decorative library or country-house appearance. The mahogany has a warm, well-aged colour with the expected marks, knocks and surface wear associated with age and use. Both shelves are adjustable, although they currently fit very tightly within the bookcase and care should therefore be taken if repositioning them. A practical and decorative piece, ideal for books, ceramics or display, and particularly well suited to a study, sitting room or hallway. Condition: Good antique condition overall, with age-related wear and marks. The leather shelf fringes are later replacements. Please study the photographs as they form part of the condition description.
