Arts & Crafts Copper & Brass Milk Jug / Ewer, c.1900 A wonderfully characterful Arts & Crafts copper and brass milk jug or ewer, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Handcrafted in copper, the vessel has a distinctive tapered form with a broad lower body, narrow neck and an unusually shaped sweeping brass handle. A decorative brass band is worked into the copper body, giving the piece a particularly striking contrast of materials and adding to its handmade Arts & Crafts character. The surface has developed a superb natural patina over time, with areas of verdigris, warm copper tones and traces of the original finish creating a highly decorative appearance. The hand-worked surface and irregularities are part of the appeal and reflect the traditional craftsmanship of the period. Originally intended as a functional serving vessel, today it works beautifully as a sculptural decorative object, displayed on a sideboard, table, shelf or within an Arts & Crafts, antique or eclectic interior. A particularly unusual and attractive example with strong decorative presence.
