Item Details
A wonderful 18th century French oak enfilade / sideboard, full of character and beautifully constructed from solid oak.
The piece has recently been sympathetically cleaned and restored, retaining the age, wear and surface character you would expect from a piece of this period. The exterior has been carefully lightened and finished with wax, bringing out the natural grain and giving the oak a warm, pale appearance without removing its original character.
The front is arranged with two cupboards beneath two larger drawers and a smaller central locking drawer. The central drawer retains its original 18th century French lock and an antique key is currently being cut to fit. The two cupboard doors are being fitted with vintage replacement locks and keys.
The cupboard doors feature traditional lift-off pin hinges, while the construction throughout shows the irregularity and hand-working associated with early furniture. The underside and interior retain a much darker untouched surface, providing a particularly nice contrast and further evidence of age.
The wooden drawer knobs have been replaced sympathetically in keeping with the piece.
A very attractive and practical antique that would work equally well as a sideboard, kitchen cupboard, hallway piece or large console.
As with all antique furniture of this age, there are marks, knocks, old repairs, movement and general wear throughout. These form part of its character and history. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
